Join us today as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Baptist minister and civil rights activist and leader. Did you know that King first visited Calvary Baptist Church (located at 2nd and Walnut Streets in OKC) in 1953 in view of a call to be their pastor? King just finished Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania, when preached at the church but was not retained as pastor. He later returned to Calvary Baptist Church to speak during a Freedom Rally on July 29, 1960, a full three years before the historic March on Washington when King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
